Tommy “Bravo” Roughan

Head Coach

Bravo is a Personal Trainer and Group Training coach at BAC, receiving his certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Bravo has over 8 years of training experience, with specialities including Powerlifting, HIIT, OCR Training, and Modified Strongman. Bravo has always been a mover and motivator, growing up with an active lifestyle outside of traditional sports. After receiving his black belt in Tae Kwon Do in his early 20's, Bravo quickly became an instructor, finding his passion for teaching others. Once he moved to NYC, Bravo began exploring different disciplines, training and competing in Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, competing in Obstacle Course Races and endurance events, such as Goruck, Spartan races and Tough Mudders, and he has also spent many years competing in regional powerlifting events. Throughout his explorations, a fellow trainer of his suggested applying for an internship at a small gym in the neighborhood about 12 years ago. That small gym eventually became Brooklyn Athletic Club. And here we are. Outside of BAC, Bravo is currently training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and on the weekends, you can find him trying a new bourbon. He also has a sweet spot for dogs and most critters on four legs, and if you’re a bad driver or litter bug, stay out of his way.

Private training with Bravo has changed my life. When I joined BAC, I could not complete a single push-up. Now, thanks to Bravo, I am squatting and deadlifting more than 200lbs. Bravo is an expert at programming and pushes me to safely reach new goals far beyond what I could accomplish on my own. His encyclopedic knowledge of strength and conditioning means we are always mixing up our programs, keeping things challenging yet achievable. He always brings enthusiasm and positivity, motivating me to hit the next milestone. Working out with Bravo brought the consistency and progress I needed - I’ve never had more confidence in my body and can’t overstate his impact. I am incredibly appreciative of the opportunity to train with him!
