At Brooklyn Athletic Club, we strive to give our clients the most dynamic training experience possible every time they walk through our doors. 



Brooklyn Athletic Club was inspired by an immense  passion for a training facility that offers the best fitness programs the industry has to offer. In order to build the facility we envisioned, we had to take into consideration the numerous changes the fitness industry has gone through, for example, deeply discounted gyms, boutique training centers, boot camps, and CrossFit affiliates. We wanted to  set ourselves apart with a unique approach to  training and programming by bridging the gap of  generic gyms and specialty training centers,  which is exactly what Director Lawrence Betz accomplished. 

In 2004, Larry Betz opened Maxim Health and Fitness in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Within two years, Larry’s experience at Maxim motivated him to return to school to become a Strength and Fitness Coach and study Advanced Personal Training Exercise Science. Over the next several years, Larry attended a variety of  intensive seminars and lectures throughout the US which were instructed by top strength and conditioning coaches. 

In October of 2009, Larry started to plan what is now Brooklyn Athletic Club. Larry renovated a warehouse on Berry street in Williamsburg and began perfecting what is now Brooklyn Athletic Club’s Group Training, Semi-Private Training, and One-on-One Training methodologies. Larry planned for members to have access to a gym while having the option of  taking specialty programs, such as our group training classes and fitness classes.   He also wanted trainers to be the most well-rounded and proficiently trained in the industry. In order to accomplish this, BAC has an internship and offers continuous education for our trainers, allowing them to be  up-to-date on the latest fitness trends. 

Finally, after five years of planning, educating, and traveling in pursuit of the most efficient methods, equipment and  team, Brooklyn Athletic Club opened it doors in early 2015 with a set mission to help members reach their fitness goals, whether it be in body fat reduction, event training, post rehabilitation or Olympic lifting.  We will be there with you every step of the way in accomplishing  your goals by  providing  encouragement, smart programming, and an all around amazing experience.
