Hatha, meaning “willful” or “forceful,” refers to a set of postures designed for alignment. The term is used to distinguish it from meditative yoga, or in certain contexts, to indicate a more static practice as distinct from flow (vinyasa), ashtanga vinyasa, kundalini, and other styles that emphasize movement. Hatha yoga uses bodily postures, breathing techniques, and meditation, with the goal of bringing about a sound, healthy body and a clear, peaceful mind.
